DS-260 Updated: New questions applicants should review carefully

Applicants preparing to complete Form DS-260, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application, should carefully review the questions currently displayed in the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC).

Based on updates observed in the DS-260 system as of September 17, 2026, certain sections may request additional information compared with previous versions of the form. 

What information has been updated?

1. Family Information

The DS-260 may now request additional information about siblings, as well as information concerning certain previous marital or domestic relationships, including a Civil Partner or Domestic Partner where applicable.

Applicants with complicated family or marital histories should review these questions carefully and make sure all applicable information is disclosed accurately.

2. Foreign travel history

One of the notable changes concerns the applicant’s previous international travel history.

Applicants may be asked to provide information covering a longer period than the travel history requested in older versions of the DS-260. Depending on the application, the system may request details such as:

• Countries or locations visited
• Dates of arrival and departure
• Who paid for the trip?

The exact questions and fields may vary depending on the applicant’s circumstances and the version of the CEAC system being used.

3. Applicants with special backgrounds should pay close attention

Applicants should be particularly careful when completing the DS-260 if they have:

• Family members or relatives who later married each other
• Previously lived abroad for an extended period, whether legally or without lawful status
• Previously been affiliated with or participated in a political party or organization.

These circumstances may involve additional questions or require further information during the immigrant visa process.

Important reminder when completing form ds-260

The DS-260 is an important part of the immigrant visa process, and applicants should not rely solely on an older version of the form or information from a previous application.

The U.S. Department of State advises applicants to complete the DS-260 through CEAC and answer all applicable questions. Most fields are mandatory, and applications may not be submitted if required information is missing.

Applicants should therefore review each question displayed in their current DS-260 carefully and provide complete, truthful, and consistent information.
